A day trip to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.

We are finally all feeling a bit better so off to the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. We had spent Australia Day here, and today just happened to be the day of the Tidbinbilla "Extravaganza."  We just did the nature walks and saw some great wildlife.  It was a fantastic day.

Wild emus.  Don't let the fence fool you.
This one is on the side next to the road and is not supposed to be.

This balloon was being inflated for the festivities.  The kangaroos were quite alarmed by this and 80 or so (at least) bounded in front of us to gain a safer distance.
These ones are looking at the balloon.
These ones want us to move our car so they could hop across the road without an audience.
A kangaroo 'mob' lazing about where we had our picnic lunch.  They weren't interested in our food.
Bounding away.
This mob is starting to get nervous, notice all the ones standing up.
The Sanctuary is were we went for a great walk and it was ideal for the stroller.  Nathaniel spent most of his time there as he is still a bit under the weather.

Isn't this true everywhere?

Spoiled.
An Australian pelican.
They scooped out water from the marsh and then used pipits to suck up the bugs.  They put them into ice cube trays and used a magnifying glass to identify.  Sebastian was in a bug heaven.
A brolga.  Roughly 1m in height.
A rock carving of a Bogong Moth, hugely important to the Aboriginal peoples.
An Aboriginal tattoo of a platypus.  We didn't see any wild ones though, such a pity.

A highly poisonous red-bellied  black snake sunning himself in the middle of the road.
The Koala sanctuary were this male is slowly being introduced to the others.  We even saw him move and eat, quite a feat for this species.  We didn't see any others through the Eucalyptus forest as they are well hidden and most likely sleeping.
