We decided to avoid the mayhem at the downtown core and went out here to have a bush picnic instead. It was an extremely hot day at 37C but thankfully there was a breeze. This place is rather fantastic and really green. We were surprised to see mountains and evergreens. Our big treat of the day was seeing the new addition to the Koala sanctuary. He was sleeping as they are nocturnal, however, it was among the cutest things we've ever seen.
Brave Sebastian touching a Frilled-Necked Lizard and a Boa.
Boys watching the entertainment from inside the BBQ shelter. No BBQ's permitted today as it was too hot.
This man was amazing. He uses whips and lassos to entertain the crowd.
An Aboriginal family demonstrating a variety of song and dance.
Aussie wildlife.
A short nature hike around the Koala Sanctuary.
We found a river at the Cotter Dam to cool off in. Thank goodness we brought our suits. We forgot the towels but were pretty much dry by the time we walked back up to the car.
We headed to the Commonwealth park and Regatta Point to watch the fire works. They started at 9pm after some live concerts. What we couldn't believe was at around 8:30pm the fruit bats started their hunting. There were hundreds of them swarming around, quite high up in the air. They are rather massive in size, I actually thought they were birds until a few came closer.
The fire works were among the best we've ever seen and don't forget we grew up watching the fireworks down town in Vancouver, so this is saying something. The kids have never stayed up this long and they both did awesome.
Sebastian was allowed to enter the fire truck. It was too dark for pictures though.
